Hi there!

I love reading stories of what goes on behind the scenes when my favourite artists make new music or music videos, so I thought you might also enjoy reading about some of the shenanigans that took place whilst filming the music video for ‘In Too Deep’, and a little bit about the making of the song.

Read on to discover stories of incredible musicians, freezing waterfalls and snakes!

Making the Song - 'In Too Deep'

'In Too Deep' is the first single that I released from my debut album 'Lost in Love'.

I chose to release this song first because it sums up the whole sound of the album.

Whilst writing 'In Too Deep' I wanted the song to feel like after one listen you would be swept away, transported to my fantasy world of enchantment, passion and romance!

'In Too Deep' is a mid-tempo song which introduces itself with a delicate blend of voice and piano, building gently with harp and strings, leading to an intricate orchestral arrangement climaxing with a powerful finale, reminiscent of an epic film score you wish you had heard before!

I thought I should mention here that I am a huge Lord Of The Rings fan, so when my producer, Tom E. Morrison, mentioned that he could ask Dermot Crehan to play on my album, I tried not to get my hopes up too much! However, Tom did ask Dermot if he would be interested and he said ‘YES!’. As you can imagine, I was over the moon!

Now you probably don’t know what all the fuss was about, but if I tell you that Dermot Crehan had not only played in the Royal and London Philharmonic orchestra’s for a plethora of talented artists including Il Divo, Carl Jenkins and Elton John but he had also played on film scores including The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter and my favourite film trilogy of all time, The Lord of the Rings, then you will understand why it was such a big deal to me!

You will recognise his signature sound in none other than the Two Towers soundtrack from the The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.

Dermot plays a solo on his hardanger fiddle in the famous The Riders of Rohan track! I am so very blessed, and absolutely thrilled, that this incredibly talented man is on my album! So, the violin you hear in ‘In Too Deep’ sounds so beautiful because Dermot played it. I hope you like it as much as I do!

Making The Music Video for 'In Too Deep'

Location Location Location

I wanted to create an other-worldly ethereal theme for my first music video, and doing it as an unsigned independent artist on a shoestring budget was going to be hard to pull off. However, with hard work and determination, I felt that anything was possible!

I went brainstorming places around the south of England to be able to film with my friend and talented Director, Steven Wheeler, where I could bring my vision to life.

Whilst browsing Google Images to choose the location to film in, (I told you it was low budget – no recce budget!), there were a couple of locations in particular that really stood out for me.

One of the locations was St. Nectans Glen, which is a beautiful collection of natural waterfalls in Cornwall; proper Merlin & Knights of the Round Table country!

St. Nectans Glen has some beautiful natural waterfalls, very loud and very very cold, in fact, the water is freezing!

Filming In Freezing Water

I wanted one scene to include the waterfalls, so for me to be able to walk in the waterfall in the most 'fairy-tale' and 'enchanted' fashion, I had to go barefoot and I was absolutely freezing!!

My feet got so cold from filming that scene, that I couldn’t move my feet to get my wellies on after we had finished filming, and I didn't get any feeling back in them for about an hour.

During filming the waterfall scene for the music video, I was unaware that at the bottom of the waterfall there were very large stones that made the footing very uneven and where the water crashes down to hit the ground (literally), there is around a six-foot drop!

As I was walking around the waterfall, I fell over and just about managed not to lose my footing to go completely under, which brought the title of the song ‘In Too Deep’ a little too close to home! Luckily, Steven was a dab hand at editing so we managed to get the best bits without seeing me fall over.

An Enchanted Forest!

One of the other locations that I found was a beautiful wood in Dartmoor; a special ancient wood called 'Wistman’s Wood'. The beautiful moss-covered tree and rocks made it feel like it was a truly magical place.

Whilst filming here I found the moss was so soft! I filmed barefoot to feel connected to the energy of the earth, I was in my element as a fairy princess, walking on velvet moss covered rocks.

What I didn’t know, was that native snakes in Wistman’s Wood enjoy living between the rocks; yes, very potent adders!  It was probably not the best place to be walking barefoot but I managed to survive to tell the tale!

Anyway here is a pic of me and my one true love 'Pippa the poodle', both blissfully unaware of the snakes beneath us!

Thanks for dropping by to read my latest blog post! I hope you enjoyed reading about the first single from my debut album.

Sending you love and light,

Natasha x
